Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Premier Poodle Pups special?
Premier Poodle Pups has been a family-owned and operated Poodle breeding program since 1995. Over the years, we've placed puppies with more than 800 loving families across the country. Our health-first approach means every breeding decision is guided by comprehensive health testing, temperament evaluation, and a genuine love for the breed. Our puppies are raised in our family home — never in kennels — and receive daily socialization from day one.
What sizes of Poodle do you breed?
We specialize in all three AKC-recognized Poodle sizes: Toy, Miniature, and Standard. Toy Poodles stand up to 10 inches at the shoulder, Miniatures range from 10 to 15 inches, and Standards stand over 15 inches. Each size has its own unique charm and personality, and we can help you determine which is the best fit for your lifestyle and living situation. All of our breeding dogs are AKC-registered and health-tested.
Are Poodles hypoallergenic? Do they shed?
Poodles are one of the most hypoallergenic dog breeds available. They have a single-layer, curly coat that sheds minimally and produces less dander than most breeds. While no dog is 100% allergen-free, Poodles are an excellent choice for families with allergies. Their low-shedding coat means less hair on your furniture and clothing, though it does require regular grooming to stay healthy and mat-free.
What grooming do Poodles need?
Poodles require regular grooming to keep their curly coat in top condition. We recommend professional grooming every 4 to 6 weeks and daily brushing at home to prevent matting. Many owners choose a simple puppy clip or sporting clip for easy maintenance. Regular ear cleaning is also important, as Poodles' ears can trap moisture. We provide a complete grooming guide with every puppy to help you get started.
How intelligent are Poodles?
Poodles are consistently ranked among the top two most intelligent dog breeds in the world. They are exceptionally quick learners, eager to please, and excel at obedience training. This intelligence makes them highly adaptable — they thrive in a variety of living environments, from apartments to large homes. Their smarts also mean they benefit from mental stimulation through puzzle toys, training sessions, and interactive play.
How much exercise do Poodles need?
Poodles are active, athletic dogs that enjoy daily exercise. Standard Poodles typically need 60 or more minutes of activity per day, including walks, runs, or play sessions. Miniature and Toy Poodles do well with 30 to 45 minutes of daily exercise. All sizes love swimming, fetch, and agility activities. Despite their exercise needs, Poodles are also happy to relax at home with their families after a good play session.
Are Poodles good with kids and other pets?
Absolutely. Poodles are known for their gentle, patient temperament and make wonderful family dogs. They tend to be playful and protective with children while remaining calm and well-mannered. Poodles also get along well with other dogs and pets, especially when properly socialized from a young age. Our early socialization program helps ensure every puppy is confident and comfortable around children, adults, and other animals.
What is the lifespan of a Poodle?
Poodles are a long-lived breed. Toy and Miniature Poodles typically live 12 to 15 years, while Standard Poodles average 10 to 13 years. Proper nutrition, regular veterinary care, and an active lifestyle all contribute to a longer, healthier life. Our comprehensive health testing program and 2-year health guarantee are designed to give your Poodle the best possible start.
What does the health guarantee cover?
Our comprehensive 2-year health guarantee covers genetic conditions such as hip dysplasia, Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), von Willebrand's Disease, and Addison's Disease, as well as congenital defects including heart conditions, luxating patellas, and sebaceous adenitis. We also provide a 14-day communicable disease window from the date you receive your puppy. Full details are available on our Health Guarantee page.
What is included in the puppy price?
Every Premier Poodle Pups puppy comes with AKC registration, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, a veterinary health certificate, a puppy starter kit with food, blanket, and toy, and our comprehensive 2-year health guarantee. We believe in transparency — there are no hidden fees or surprise costs.
Do you offer shipping?
Yes! We offer two convenient delivery options. Door-to-door delivery is available for $300 — your puppy is hand-delivered right to your home by a professional pet nanny. Airport pickup is also available for $250, where your puppy will be flown in-cabin (never cargo) with a pet nanny and you'll pick them up at your nearest major airport. Both options include real-time updates during travel.
How do I reserve a puppy?
Reserving your puppy is simple. Start by filling out our puppy inquiry form so we can learn about your family and preferences. Once we've matched you with the perfect puppy, a $500 deposit secures your reservation ($100 of which is refundable if plans change). We'll keep you updated with photos and milestone reports until your puppy is ready to come home.
How are your puppies socialized?
Our puppies benefit from Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) starting at just 3 days old, which has been shown to improve stress tolerance, immune function, and overall resilience. We also follow the Rule of 7, ensuring each puppy is exposed to at least 7 different surfaces, sounds, people, and experiences before going home. Because our puppies are raised in our family home, they're accustomed to everyday household sounds, children, and other pets.
What health testing do you do on parents?
Our parent dogs undergo comprehensive health evaluations including hip and elbow scoring, PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy) genetic testing, von Willebrand's Disease screening, cardiac evaluations by a board-certified cardiologist, patella evaluations, thyroid testing, and Brucellosis testing prior to each breeding. We believe responsible breeding starts with healthy, well-tested parents.
